Must Love Dogs.......

Wow. So, this past week I saw The Wrestler. To say that it rocks is an understatement. The movie is honest, real, and horrifyingly beautiful. In the past couple days, I realized that I like The Wrestler more than Slumdog Millionaire and Milk combined. I thought it was really just that good! So good that I decided to watch the Oscars to watch Mickey win the award. Sadly, he lost to Sean Penn. Now don't get me wrong....Sean Penn killed as Harvey Milk. However, when thinking about the roles, making Harvey Milk likable is a far easier task (for a liberal like me) than creating love for a failed wrestler who abandoned his daughter.

And then I decided to do some google exploration of Mr. Rourke. And I found out that he has multiple dogs including Chihuahuas. And then he immediately joined the ranks of my favorite actors.

Whole Foo.......tball

After an exhilarating trip to Phoenix, I returned home quite sick. This illness can be traced back to Los Angeles and even more specifically to my internship. In an effort to keep complaining at a minimum I will leave it at that. My internship rocks, but well, I am surrounded by lots of germs. So many in fact that I broke down and asked my friend if I "could borrow their purell". And anyone who knows me knows that I have a serious aversion to the hand drying antibacterial agent that hangs so neatly from the keychains of the obsessive compulsive.........ok...sorry, couldn't help some minor gripes....but I think I understand now!

Back to more important things. So here I am post cab ride back at my apartment. Too sick to do anything really productive (homework, work, etc) and not tired enough to sleep. What is an individual to do? I will tell you: head to the Whole Foods. The thought of purchasing healthy, unadulterated food made me seem to feel a bit better. And the fact that my refund check from LMU was now safely in my bank account made a trip to the Neiman Marcus of grocers somewhat feasible.

When I walked through the double doors, I was surrounded by a crowd of North Face Fleece Jackets who were striving to see the television in the eatery. Ah! The game! While I was not interested in watching the game per se, I was interested if the Arizona Cardinals would win. You see, being an AZ resident for 13 years, I became all too familiar with the Cardinals. Not as a team of glory, but of a team that seemed to be game for constant public mockery. Did you ever see the Simpsons episode in which Homer becomes the mayor of 'New Springfield?' Enough said. Anyway, having been conditioned that the Cardinals were a horrible team, one can only imagine my surprise when I heard that they were playing in the game of all games.

I walk in and check to see the score.
23 to 17. Or something like that. Whatever it was it was in the Cardinals favor. And there were like 2 minutes left. As soon as I saw this, my face must have done something to reflect. I was immediately asked by Polar Fleece #1, "Who are you rooting for?"

Me: "Um, AZ? I lived there for a long time?"
Polar Fleece #1: "No WAY! I cant talk to you it is all about the Steelers"
Polar Fleece #2: GO CARDS!

Anyway, so the game moves on and the poor Cardinals lose. But the moral of the story is that I watched the last 2 minutes of the game (which in football time, like dog years, equates to much more) and enjoyed it. There was this odd level of camaraderie that I was sucked into. Everyone was having fun and I wanted in. Similar to watching people play craps in Vegas. Only I didn't have to buy in.
