Spring For Coffee!

Today I sprung over to Spring Street for the second time this week to head over to a new coffee bar, Spring For Coffee. The cafe is no larger than a walk in closet, but let me tell you, they serve up some of the tastiest coffee in town. The specialty is the "crafted cup".....a freshly prepared single cup of the coffee of your choice. Seeing as how today I went in au pair, the "lovers pot" was offered...a Chemex pot with enough for two. The Chemex (see picture) is a mix between drip and French Press and totally delicious. Mad props to Spring for offering that as an option. You can also craft your cup with a gold filter or the French Press.

Krazy Kogi Eats

Rarely do things live up to the hype. I guess I have just subscribed to the "greater the hype, the greater the letdown" school of thought. I think that pessimistic attitude was what ultimately yanked me from the line at Pink's Hot Dogs last month. Well, that, and kind of not really wanting to eat a hot dog. Oh, and not moving more than 5 feet in a 30 minute time frame. And let's not forget the prospect of pizza that came up. But back to more important matters: Kogi BBQ.
Last week, my mom (who lives in Arizona and also knows my love for a good taco truck) asked me, "Have you eaten at Kogi BBQ?" I was dumbfounded. I had been asked this same question on my birthday....by friends who live here in L.A. I asked her, "Huh, what, why?" She responded that she had been reading an article in Newsweek about the genius otherwise known as Kogi. I told her that a) I have heard of the truck but b) I have not had the opportunity to eat there. I had been hearing about the "tweeting" truck for weeks now. The fact that my mom asked me about it did peak my interest a little more but also prepared me for a potential letdown.
So this past Saturday, I logged on to the Kogi BBQ Twitter page. For those who are unfamiliar with the nuts and bolts, Kogi alerts customers to its' whereabouts via "tweets" through the social phenomenon. The Twitter page informed me that the Verde truck (Kogi has two trucks, Rojo y Verde) would be in my hood at the Brig. Time to take advantage.
Long story short: waited in line about 25 minutes, ordered a Lotte Rice Punch (not so great. Should have gotten a Coke) and a Korean Short-Ribs Burrito (recommended by the chef and TOTALLY INSANELY DELICIOUS). The burrito had shortrib meat, crunchy cabbage, spicy/sweet sauce, potatoes, egg and cheese. It was a perfect size. Not too big, not too small. I was like little Goldilocks, but only I found perfection at first bite.

In through the out door....

....or in my case, the men's restroom. Yes, in a post homework haze I went through the incorrect door. It took a few seconds to register the mistake. And when it did register, I didn't quite grasp that I had gone into the men's room. My immediate thought was more along the lines of pondering the recent remodeling of the women's room. And then my thoughts went to thinking that perhaps I went to the restroom on the wrong floor. So at that point I backed out of the bathroom, confused, and saw the iconic blue man on the door. Shit. There was a temporary freakout but it subsided quickly because it really didn't matter. Men in the Art Therapy wing? Psssh. Fat chance.

The day continued to become more and more hazy and with the increasing haze a side dish of stomachache. I somehow made it through the day and returned home around 6. To my delight, Netflix had delivered me the movie, "Role Models." There was nothing more appealing to me than watching Paul Rudd in a sub par comedy. Especially one that showcases L.A.R.P.I.N.G. My mediocre expectations left me more than pleasantly surprised. The movie was great. Lots of laughing. And I didn't fall asleep........

Go Paul Rudd! And on a related sidenote, I totally am stoked to see, "I Love You Man." Did I mention that I like Paul Rudd?

Back in Black

No. This post has zero to do with AC/DC although I must admit I was seriously rocking out to the song last week while driving through the desert. I was just trying to think of some snarky/witty/brilliant title for my entry. Seeing as how I have not posted anything in ages, I wanted to come back with a BANG. Or I guess in this case, a pair of schoolboy shorts and suspenders....guitar in hand.

Anyway, my good friend Danielle made mention that I had been laying low in the world of blogging. And to that statement, I had to agree. There are times when in the shower, or in the car, or some other time in which writing a blog would be next to impossible when I have these amazing ideas. Ideas that push the envelope of excellence you see. And then I forget them or the phone rings or I am running later to something and then the entry gets put on the backburner....and for those of you who know me, you know cooking is not my forte.

So I decided to make an effort to get things rolling this weekend back on Modern Day Bullfight. The weekend was fantastic. French Dip sandwiches were had at Cole's. I had never had a French Dip and have to say one thing: delicious. I do however need to say another thing: too much meat. I had one bite and while it was utterly blissful, I was meated out for the evening. The establishment is great. There is a speakeasy type bar in the back. Get there early and you can grab a table. Sit in the dark. Sip mojitos. Or in Nick's case....a Hot Buttered Rum.
