Wading into the World of Maternity Clothes.....

The time has come. The other day driving home from work, I noticed that I had to unbutton my jeans in order to have a comfortable drive home. Prior to this defining moment, I had been having a progressively harder time pulling up my jeans throughout the week. The final straw was yesterday, while sitting in a meeting, I noticed that I had a bump on my stomach. After further investigation in the ladies, I realized the bump was directly next to where the jeans button had been digging into my skin all day. So not so much a bump, but an inflammation.......a clear as day sign telling me loudly that I can no longer fit into my clothes of choice.

I had picked up some larger and longer tops at TJ Maxx over the weekend, but now the pants issue had to be addressed. Last night I came across my favorite jeans...the Gap 1969 Always Skinny cut in maternity style! Woo Hoo! Ordered. Done. Hopefully they will arrive over the weekend.
These jeans have a demi panel. Can't even tell that they are maternity!

I got away today with wearing a dress and tights at work today which was considerably more comfy. It prompted me to go out and look for another one to don during the day. After work we stopped over at Nordstrom Rack where I picked up this lil' goodie....in a larger size mind you:

This Lucky brand dress is super stretchy and has a nice defined waist which sits right about the baby bump.

I have a trip to Crossroads planned this weekend and will let you know what I come across!

The Baby. Apparently an American Classic.....

On Friday I happened to turn to TCM just as a movie called "The Baby" was about to begin. Reading the summary on the screen, the movie piqued my interest. I am into all films with mental disorders woven into the premise and this one was no different. A movie about an adult infant and his crazy family dealing with a social worker who takes a special interest in him? I may have not remembered the plot description word for word, but you get the picture.

The film was just as odd as it looks. I was hooked. I was even more astounded that this piece of cinema somehow constitutes as a "classic" of the TCM variety. Cult classic perhaps, but I have to say I was surprised (albiet pleasantly) to catch this for the first time on the station I did!

Anyone else ever catch this wacky flick?

First Purchase

I made the official first purchase of many to come. I guess you could consider the fabrics a baby purchase, but this onesie was the first specific-only-usable-for-baby selection to be made. After looking at cute punk rock onesies on google images, I came across a site called Ittikid which had the most adorable patterns and fabrics for their line of kids stuff. Yes. It was an expensive site, but I snagged three items that were on sale! Hooray!

Boy Oh Boy! A Girl!

Now since the gender has been determined, I can go ahead and order this floral zoo themed Echino fabric for my first attempt at quilt making:

I have selected a blue and pink floral for the trim and or squares. Not quite sure how I will go about this. Want to lay the fabrics out first.

Very excited to get started on this project!!!

On Driving in LA

Of all the gripes one may have with Los Angeles city driving, my biggest is one that I never noticed until I moved here. I don't even know what you would call it aside from a lengthy explanation of what it is: leaving way too much space in between your car and the car ahead of you. And God forbid if you try and take the opportunity to move lanes in front of said drivers...they will speed up to prevent it from happening despite the extra room! Ok. I get wanting to leave a buffer between you and the vehicle in front of you....giving enough room to pull out and switch lanes in the event of a stalled car is never a bad idea. But over one car length when sitting at a stop light? Yes. I have seen it. I have seen some leave almost 2 car lengths between. And this is a daily occurrence. As in multiple occurrences daily. Why have I never seen this before moving here? Any one else notice?

Pasadena Cheeseburgers Part Deux

The week of delicious continued Sunday with a trip to Lucky Boy Drive-In. This time, David and I took a third party, Jonathan, to enjoy the fun. Technically there is no traditional drive in at Lucky Boy, but there is a walk up counter where orders are placed. The place was a bit chaotic at first with confusion over our order price and others order numbers. We were caught in a shouting mess of 20's, 22's, 23's and 24's...one of which was the cost of two burgers, two fries and two drinks and the others being the order numbers of fellow burger go-ers.

The burgers were pretty good with a definite grill flavor to them. Much better than a fast food joint but not up to the level of tastiness of the Pie N' Burger cheeseburger. However, if one is playing Lucky Boy V. Pie N' Burger, I have to give the fry card to Lucky Boy. In addition to traditional fries, we ordered Zucchini Fries, which as they sound are zucchini pieces cut in fry shapes, breaded and fried. Ranch on the side. Pretty stellar.

MMM! Burgers!

Jonathan and the lovely living room decor in the dining area.

Amazing old school graphics. Zucchini fries. Potato fries.

Now Playing: Everything Counts.

Depeche Mode Kids. I was also going to put up the official DM video from back in the day but You Tube restrictions prohibit........

Anyhow, this whimsical version is totally incredible and is very deserving of a post all to its own.

Pie N' Burger: Pasadena Cheeseburger Week

Well I should start by stating that we definitely jumped the gun on the whole Pasadena Cheeseburger Week. Technically the official start is tomorrow but I suppose David and I are real go-getters when it comes to things as delicious as cheeseburgers. Well I should re-clarify.....I guess I am the real go-getter when it comes to all things cheeseburgers. Since getting my appetite back after the standard first trimester illnesses and lack of hunger, I have been craving the delicious lil' sandwiches. In fact, the first meal I had once my hunger was back in business was In-N-Out. It'e been more of the same moving through the second tri. Needless to say, we decided to head out a day early to join in on the celebratory fun.
Pie Case and Counter and Turner Classic Movies!

Amazing Neon Clock

When we arrived at Pie N' Burger, we were greeted with a sign informing us of filming that was taking place inside. A crew from a Travel Channel show was documenting the whole burger process for the day. Initially, we were a bit apprehensive about being in the hullabaloo but we ended up taking a seat in the back and out of the line of fire.

Crew Filming the Cooks
The standard fare obviously are burgers, but there were other options for those interested. We got a chance to chat with a server on break who fully supported our Pie N' Burger Newbie order of two cheeseburgers, two fries and drinks. She then brought us out some samples of pies to taste which indeed influenced us to share a piece post meal. During our pie sampling and conversation, we learned of berry called an "olallieberry", a blackberry/raspberry hybrid. Apparently in May, they have seasonal pies with these specially bred berries.

Burger. Cheese. Pickles. Russian Dressing. AMAZING.
It did not take too long for the food to arrive and when it did, we were both delighted! The meal rocked! The service was great and who can complain about being talked into ordering a delicious slice of boysenberry pie with homemade whipped cream. Not us.........
I know I'm supposed to watch sugar, but I just had to cheat for this.  Plus, we split it!
